Animating my way through Winter…

I still have 5 feet of snow in my backyard where I do my Springtime gardening each year. This year I decided that I’d try my hand at learning a new trick. Not, pertaining to gardening, but rather teaching myself how to animate. You will see (thank heavens) a progression in my abilities with each new animation that I released to the public.

My love of gardening is followed by my love of creating, which is actually what gardening is all about. So, whether it’s Art or Gardening I am in my up most happy place creating. I hope you enjoy my baby steps into animating and if one day I become good I  hope to hear from Spielberg.  (Insert laugh track here…)

Toonie Tuesdays began on YouTube back on January 30th 2018

I’m pleased to introduce you to Wilson and Harley

With each new frame I created I grew excited daily to bring these two characters to life. I began drawing my heart out digitally using a digital Pen Tablet and SketchBook Pro.

Winter time in Northern Ontario, Canada can become challenging in more ways than one and to keep a feeling of ” Well Being” can be a tricky thing when the daylight hours are at a minimum and the dark skies of a snowy winter can alter how you feel each day. So, I battle my way through the winters here doing things that can offer me smiles and enjoyment. Last winter I had an indoor garden all winter long, but I also had those gnats flying around all last winter too, due to them hatching from the store bought potting soil.

Between shoveling off my deck and snow-blowing the driveway many times I began creating something fun for myself. I figured if I could make myself giggle I just might be able to bring a few smiles or two to other folks who are struggling to find their own Winter time smiles.

Now, I know these are not the best around and some folks may even say they are not very good, but this is the beginning of animation for me and I started out not knowing what on earth I was doing. Baby steps remember, and learning as I go.

When I hear something that I’ve drawn has made someone smile or just felt better then I know I am on the right track with this path I’ve taken. These are not merely for my own enjoyment they are for you my friends here.  The folks who are sitting here reading this typed out message and watching the birth of Wilson & Harley….

When I arrived at this point in time for creating the above animation I’d been pondering (I do this a lot) for many hours over just how I wanted to change up my skills and thought of something that just might work out.

Bam !  I was blown away by what I created here and I am very excited for you all to see….

So, I think I’ve kept you all here much too long and I’ll save the next ones for future blog posts. If, you’ve made it thus far I truly Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I hope that I’ve left a few smiles in my wake…. hugs

My Christmas Elf returns this year….

Just after being sick with a cold for over a month, my Christmas Elf returned this year to help me out in the kitchen to prepare Gluten Free Pie crusts for the mini Apple pies I’m making for my son. Due to terrible skin allergies he has had to give up all gluten.. Please enjoy this bit of whimsy for your post Christmas Day…..

And, if you have a few moments to spare, join my beautiful daughter and I in the kitchen to whip up some tasty treats..

Thanking you all kindly for spending some holiday time with my family, Hugs….

This past weekend could have turned out differently……

Spring….is such a delightful word that can contain many different meanings. The time of year is my favorite definition for the word, Spring. Especially coming out of a long and cold winter full of shoveling daily to keep up with all of the white stuff.

But, spring also can mean a spring in your step. For me meaning I’m almost skipping outside to visit my yet to be planted garden for this season. Even, my pup appears to have a spring in each of her tired, old four paws. You see she is aging and it is beginning to show in her movements ~ Almost, mirroring my own hobbles around on those certain rainy cold days of spring.

How about that trusty mattress that you bought years ago, and loved every night breaking it in just to your liking. But, as with breaking in a nice new pair of shoes or pair of jeans, just about the time they are broken in to your will, they will begin to fray or become airy as is my old tennis shoes .. Who have by the way never seen a tennis court, since I’ve bought them just for the comfort…Remember that mattress well springs tend to creak and crackle with age same as my pup and I …

This early spring has been unlike most of the 34 other springs I’ve experienced since immigrating up to Canada from Florida. It’s been really early.. by a month or more!

Mother Nature also must have a spring in her step as well with all the the flooding happening in the United States and in Canada. The rains came and someone forgot to turn off the taps. I wonder what type of water bill good old mother nature will owe?

Please enjoy the short video of Mother Nature showing us here who is boss…

Excuse the shaky parts in the beginning of the video, the winds were thrashing so fierce they were throwing stuff at my face.. oops…But, the rest is pretty smooth…

Happy St. Patty’s Day

Wilson the coconut ~Plant manager has been doing a bang up job taking care of all my indoor plants over the winter time. We still have a ways to go before we can plant out in the garden this spring. Our last frost date isn’t until May 24th, but will have to judge the evening temps as I’m attempting to grow Okra and Cotton this year.

We both, Wilson and I wanted to wish everyone a safe and Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

Join Wilson in the celebration, why don’t you…

Wilson The Plant Manager Has an Announcement….

There are days when you just can’t get anything to grow in your garden. Aside from the critters that love to munch on your tender seedlings in the Spring. Why am I mentioning Spring so early, well it appears lots of folks are getting spring like weather all over the globe. It’s even raining here in February, which it never does.. Well, not in the 34 years I’ve lived in Canada.

There’s something strange afloat around here too, I have 5 pineapples that I began growing back in September, after a gardening challenge was made by one of my wonderful YouTube gardening friends. Here’s a look into what my world has been for me this winter, trying to trick pineapple tops to grow in the dead of winter in Canada and have them believe it’s Hawaii..

Good Golly Miss Molly

Sometimes, mother nature will throw you a curve ball.. Even if it’s not spring training yet…My pup knew early this morning that something was up and she didn’t like it one little bit. The wind began to howl and she began to slowly pant. The thunder roared across the sky as if a freight train was going over the house… My pup began to pant heavily and shake. I rose from my bed to see what was the matter, and didn’t find St. Nick atop the roof, but what I did find was something resembling popcorn bouncing off the rooftop.
